THEA HOPE
Thea Hope is a multi-disciplinary producer and community facilitator, advocating for cultural development through international exchange, cross-discipline collaboration and intersectional awareness.
Thea is currently based in Berlin where she is developing 90mil a new 2000sqm multidisciplinary venue and cultural space in the city centre.
In 2016, she founded The Palace Collective, an international artist network centred on self-organisation and DIY approaches to building community and culture. She is the Director of the organisation, leading their annual residency programme that brings 250 international emerging artist together for a 14 day programme of cross-discipline collaboration in a remote palace in Poland.
From 2019 - 2021 she was producer for Svalbard Company, with whom she toured their award winning show ‘All Genius All Idiot’ internationally and oversaw the development of their new production, ‘Braintown’ in collaboration with, and showcased at, Join the Docks / Certain Blacks (London), Subtopia (Stockholm), Dynamo Workspace (Odense), and Riga Cirks (Riga).
Thea is also a founding member of Dolly, a collective of creative technologists, producers and artists exploring queer experience and processes to create XR productions.
CURRENT PROJECTS
90mil | Founder & Creative Director
A temporary urban regeneration project, transforming Holzmarktstrasse 19-23 (Berlin), into a multidisciplinary space for culture and community. 90mil aims to invigorate the underground cultural scene of Berlin, support local grassroots initiatives and foster a culture of inquisitiveness, creative innovation and intersectional dialogue. The space offers a donation based public programme, open workshops, community kitchen, artist studios, international residency programmes and showcases of local emerging and underground artists.
THE XENO TERRARIUM | Live Producer
A transmedia research & development and performance project, exploring the representation of queer bodies in digital space. Using volumetric and motion capture technologies, the project aims to provide a digital lens through which to reflect on the environments we create and nurture; the responsibilities we have as world builders in irl. and url., reflecting on the current climate crisis and how we can redefine our future eco-spheres and co-created habitats. Supported by ACE DYCP Fund and Bristol & Bath Creative R&D Fund.
ZIZI & ME | Producer
The world’s first deepfake drag double act! Using Artificial Intelligence and real life drag, Me The Drag Queen and media artist Jake Elwes present a unique show about queerness and technology. Drag challenges gender and explores otherness, while A.I. is often mystified as a concept and tool and is complicit in reproducing social bias. Zizi combines these themes through a deepfake, synthesised drag identity created using machine learning. Zizi & Me is currently in development with Central School for Speech and Drama and The National Theatre, London @zizidrag | zizi.ai.
GILGAMESH, ENKIDU & ISHTAR | Producer
A queer, punk, musical theatre retelling of the Epic of Gilgamesh; a new show from Olivier Award Winner, Jon Whitten supported by Arts Council England. @gilgamesh_theatre_
