THE PALACE RESIDENCY 2024
AUGUST 26 – SEPTEMBER 8
Applications to be a resident are now closed.
Join us for The Palace Showcase Weekend 5th - 8th September 2024.
The Palace Residency is a co-created art residency inviting 150 participants from around the world for two weeks of cross-disciplinary collaboration and creative development in a remote palace in Gorzanow, Poland. Produced since 2016 by The Palace Collective, each edition acts as an introduction for new members, a reunion for existing members, and a catalyst for The Palace’s ever-changing identity.
THE PALACE RESIDENCY
AUGUST 26 – SEPTEMBER 8, 2024
After the success of last year’s “bare-bones” approach, the 2024 Residency will continue to build on that foundation. The framework remains true to co-creation basics, with a focus on producing art and fostering a more inclusive and sustainable culture.
As a co-created event, everyone is asked to contribute, by collaborating on creative projects, leading workshops and sharing skills, performing, creating, or supporting on-site production. The programme explores collaborative processes and diverse art forms with the intention of creating ambitious and cross-disciplinary works. The residency culminates in a showcase weekend and a celebration of all that has been created.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN 2024?
COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS
The Residency focuses on the development and showcasing of ambitious collaborative projects. Following feedback from 2023, this year will feature fewer pre-selected projects, allowing for more organic and spontaneous on-site collaborations to emerge.
We’ve widened the definition of projects to include the creation and curation of spaces. The programme will also include daily workshops and time for self-development.
COMMUNITY
For 2024, we’re continuing to emphasise self-organisation and resident independence, while strengthening structures that nurture a more supportive and sustainable environment. We are accepting 150 residents as we find that this number fosters close collaborative relationships and good creative flow.
STRUCTURE & SHOWCASE
The residency will be a full two weeks, starting on Monday 26th. 70% of the programme is pre scheduled, with 30% open for spontaneous concepts, workshops and happenings to emerge. Everything in the programme is optional to attend, and we will always try to offer a balance between social, energetic spaces and quieter, internal spaces. There is a ‘day of rest’ on the first Sunday of the residency, during which nothing will be programmed and residents are encouraged to relax, take a break and reflect on the past week and the coming one.
The residency climaxes with a showcase of all the work created. The showcase will start on Thursday 5th and will end with a closing ceremony on the afternoon of Saturday 7th. Following the ceremony, there will be a closing party from Saturday 7th through to Sunday 8th. Unlike previous years, we are separating the party from the showcase to give more space for a collective closing that doesn’t get lost in the celebrations.

8 - 10AM : Breakfast

2PM - 5:30PM : Collaborative Projects & Development : This time is for working on collaborative projects and developing ideas. It can also be used for personal development time. We recommend every resident is involved with at leats one collaborative project.

Keep this in mind if stairs are extremely challenging for you. The entire site also has varying terrains, including slopes, gravel, and grass that can present some mobility challenges if using a cane or crutches. Don’t hesitate to contact us at residents@thepalacecollective.org if you have questions about accessibility.
APPLICATION PROCESS
APPLICATIONS ARE NOW CLOSED
Read our Application Handbook before applying.
Submission fee €10 (if you cannot afford this please email residents@thepalacecollective.org for reduced submission link)
Everyone applies as a Collaborative Resident and then you can opt to specialise in one or multiple of the following categories.
PROPOSE A PROJECT
LEAD A WORKSHOP
CREATE A SPACE
SHOWCASE EXISTING WORK
Specialising in a category is completely optional. Not filling in these areas will not decrease your chances of being accepted, at the core we are interested in you, as a person and a creative, however in the co-creational spirit of The Palace we encourage you to consider what you could contribute to the event and your fellow residents.
A project can be anything from an absurd concept to a fully planned production and can take any form, from a performance, to an installation, to a research project. A workshop can be anything you feel you can share or facilitate. Creating a space could mean doing the design and decor, the curation, facilitation or all three! Showcasing existing work is your opportunity to share your art with fellow residents as part of our evening programmes. This might include anything from spoken word, an exhibition, an installation performance or music.
Please ensure to read our Application Handbook before applying and you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us at residents@thepalacecollective.org.
APPLICATION REVIEW
Applications will be reviewed by a panel with results out by mid May.
